Client states strange smell coming from system. Client wanted a coil cleaning to help with the smell. Upon my inspection, found a refrigerant leak in the evaporator coil. This coil is not manufactured anymore and cannot be replaced. Quotes being sent for new system options.
Upon arrival, I checked the temperature difference between the supply and return air and recorded a 20° split, which is within the proper operating range. I then inspected the electrical components and found no shorts, burnouts, or signs of electrical failure. The compressor and condenser fan motor were both operating within proper amperage specifications. I performed a drain line treatment, cleaned the condenser coil, and completed a full air handler inspection. The system already has a UV light installed and operating. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your business, and have a great day.

Diagnostic: System had a refrigerant leak. After performing a leak search, I found the leak in the evaporator coil. I discussed the findings with the homeowner, and we decided to move forward with replacing the evaporator coil under warranty. Please reach out to the customer once scheduling is available so we can coordinate the installation. Repair: Upon arrival, I removed the existing evaporator coil and installed the new warranty replacement coil. I also replaced the filter drier at the condenser. After completing the installation, I performed a nitrogen pressure test, which held successfully for 20 minutes with no loss of pressure. I then pulled a vacuum on the system for approximately one hour and achieved a vacuum level of 600 microns. Once the system was started, I added refrigerant as needed and verified proper system operation. The system is currently operating with an 18° temperature difference between return air and supply air, and refrigerant pressures are within normal
Made corrections to failed inspection. Cleared drains. Strapped flu pipe to allow proper uphill flow for exhaust gas. Sealed plenum with code tape and mastic.
Performed Maitenence on system. Cleaned/treated drain line and primary drain pan. Cleaned condenser coils. Evaporator coils are clean. Verified safety float switch functionality. Checked amp draw on compressor. Checked amp draw on fan motor. Checked capacitor is not within factory range. Recommending replacing capacitor but client would like to leave it. Advised client on the stress this weak capacitor may put on the system. Inspected Contactar. Made sure all connections are tight. System is cooling with a 20° temperature split at this time. Inside air handler there is biological growth present. Showed client and offered cleaning with a UV system. Client would like to hold off for now.

3T Carrier Heat Pump Full System Tuneup Notes -indoor and outdoor unit flooded -air handler coils were submerged (corrosion on txv) -outdoor compressor was submerged -indoor blower wheel & cabinet have bacterial growth -supply plenum not sealed properly (growth accumulating) -outdoor capacitor reading very weak -system has a restriction System is 7-8 years old and currently out of manufacture warranty (2nd owner of system) Went over repair and replacement options Home owner would like to wait till system fails Unit is not operating to full capacity
Performed maintenance on 1 system. Pressures good. Temp split good. Rinsed condenser coil. Cleared pan and drain. Added chemical to help prevent growth. Tested secondary float switch. Unit is cooling properly at this time. Unit is 14” Frigidaire in very tight attic. Pan was extremely clogged with growth. Primary float unable to be used due to improper install. Recommend regular maintenance to prevent further issues with drain.
On arrival found master unit not cooling due to blown fuse. Replaced fuse and tested. Inspected inside and outside unit for possible short that caused fuse to fail. Unable to locate short at this time. Unit has 20* split and cooling at this time.
Upon arrival, I turned on the air handler, which was operating properly. I checked the temperature difference between the supply and return air and was getting a 0° split. I then moved to the condenser and found that the condenser was not turning on. After opening the electrical compartment and testing components, I found the capacitor was burnt out. I installed a temporary capacitor, and the system turned on properly. I allowed the system to run for approximately 15 minutes and rechecked the temperature split, which was then reading 18°, placing the system in a healthy operating range at this time. I discussed with the homeowner that the system is quite old and has already had previous repairs. I recommended considering system replacement in the near future rather than continuing to invest money into an aging system. The homeowner stated they are moving out soon and only wanted a temporary repair at this time. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for
Client states unit is not cooling but thermostat is on. Upon my inspection, found clogged drain line and the safety float switch was tripped. Performed a drain cleaning/ treatment. Started up system and found compressor is pulling high amps. Inspected condenser coils and found dirty coils. Pressures indicate too much refrigerant in system. Client says they had compressor replaced last year by another company. It appears that the best practices installing a compressor were not followed based on copper connections and the amount of refrigerant in the system. Cleaned/ treated drain line and primary drain pan. Chemical cleaned condenser coils with fan removed. Adjusted refrigerant charge to achieve proper subcool. Found condenser disconnect is damaged and requires replacement. Will return later this week to replace. Compressor pulls high amps are starting to up. Recommended soft start kit to reduce amp draw and prolong the life of the compressor.
